Love good music? Would like to taste the World? Wish to unwind and discover new voices? Or just want to feel good in a great company at a beautiful place by the Lake Balaton…
In the first half of the 1980s, the Kiszely brothers (Krisztián, Gergely and Dávid) - from here and beyond the tenth year - met in a Transdanubian cinema for the first time the films of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. These childhood experiences transformed into serious nostalgic feelings when in the second half of the nineties they could see again the actors' films on TV or later, on the everywhere available DVDs. The mood - which recalls the happy childhood, and the movies and their music - brought the moment when the idea of creating a band was conceived.
The founding brother-trio come from a musician-artist family. They early got a taste of performing arts, especially of music by their musician/teacher dad and actor grandfather with a high musical qualification too. From toddlerhood, they spent their time among instruments and vinyl records, so they met the world of music soon. The songs and sounds of the seventies are the strongest influence for them, and also the most well-known Spencer-Hill movies and their music were made in those times.
From brotherly love to big band
Over the years of college and starting a family, in the early 2000s, the instruments have been found again on a family reunion. It happened back then, that the song called "Brotherly Love" from the movie "Odds and Evens" has been played for the first time, on two guitars and a bass guitar. This evening, the idea to form a band interpreting only the soundtracks of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill's movies was crystallized.
At this time, each of the three brothers played already in various bands, especially Gergely (bass guitar) who has been a member of several formations (jazz-rock, big bands) since 1993, in Székesfehérvár (HU). In addition, in those times two of the three brothers studied at Lauschmann Gyula Jazz School in Székesfehérvár, so it was not difficult to set up a new band, that had not yet been named at that time.
By 2005, the group was formed with a total of 7-8 members, and almost all its members are still playing in the band. On the guitar, rhythm guitar and bass guitar there were the Kiszely brothers playing, Péter Csorba on drum, and on the saxophon Péter Jelasity joined the team (they previously played with together in other bands). Among the musicians that they met in the Jazz School, Tamás Mészáros singer and János Horváth young but talented keyboard player became members of the band. In this form, they released their first concert under the name of Spencer Hill Magic Band on the 16th of July 2006, in the Lompos Farkas club in Budapest. Later on, Orsolya Burján (vocals) and Marcell Hoff (percussion/drum) also became full members of the band. Three years later Orsolya left the band, followed by a change on the drummer's post too, Marcell took the drumsticks, and this is how the today's formation was born.
Joy and nostalgia - the key to success
At the time of its formation, the band exploded into a musical space that was untouched throughout the world, as there was no live band playing and producing the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movies music. In the repertoire there are songs created from the late sixties to the mid-eighties, no matter what kind of music style. In addition to the Kiszely brothers, all members are highly trained and experienced musicians who are well-versed in the genres of jazz, jazz-rock, funky, ethno, rock and blues. This is a guarantee that the songs sound in a professional way on the concerts, while these gigs are also a real pleasure for the fans due to the joy and the nostalgia as the main motivations of playing.
Since the summer of 2006, the band has given many concerts in Hungary, among which stands out the Bud Spencer-Terence Hill Fan Festival, hold every summer in Hungary. In 2009, the German Fan Club invited the band for the first time to play in Leipzig, Germany. It's been so successful that the Spencer Hill Magic Band has since played at the great german fans' meeting. The music repertoire consists of more than fifty songs, with songs from world-famous Italian composers such as Ennio Morricone, Guido and Maurizio De Angelis (say the Oliver Onions), Franco Micalizzi and La Bionda Brothers (D.D. Sound).
